We welcome you to participate in this fun 4-day learn to sail course on the waters of beautiful Port Stephens!

Launching from the sandy beach, you will spend fun-filled hours each morning learning sailing skills, terminology, ropework and boat handling manoeuvres. This course is suitable for complete beginners with no prior sailing skills required.

Participants will sail on a Pacer sailing dinghy suitable for two-three children, an adult & one-two children or two adults (maximum combined crew weight - 140kgs).  One participant must register (with an AS Number) for the boat and then other participants details must also be provided.

The minimum age is five (5) years if accompanied by an adult (18+years) .  You will sail multi-handed, close to shore, with the guidance of an Instructor as well as participate in some shore-based sessions.

The course will be conducted over four consecutive days with each daily session running for 3 hours from 9:30am to 12:30pm.  There are four (4) boats available for each course.

This is an Australian Sailing accredited course with nationally recognised certification upon completion for each participant.  $300 per boat. Price includes one Australian Sailing dinghy logbook (additional logbooks may be purchased if required).

The provided lifejacket must be worn at all times during the session, or as directed by your Instructor

Course Overview

This course introduces participants to dinghy sailing and its fundamental skills so they learn terminology and equipment and practice launching and returning to shore and capsize recovery. 

Course Prerequisites

Water confident.

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a dinghy. All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Start Sailing 1 completion certificate. 

 

We recognise that some of our course participants are completing the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and may be using sailing and/or club membership to complete one or more sections of The Award. To learn more, click here
