Womens Training Camp

Spinnaker workshop for women

Saturday 31st May |  11:00am to 15:00pm   |   $80 per person

NCYC is committed to recognising, nurturing and developing local sailing talent and this winter we are offering inshore keelboat Coaching Sessions for female sailors at NCYC.

This spinnaker workshop is the first of a series of training days, presented by local and visiting coaches with the aim of forming crews who can sail in NCYC inshore regattas and race leagues. This workshop will be led by three time Olympian, Karyn Gojnich, supported by local instructors and coaches.

Karyn represented Australia in sailing at three Olympic Games (1988, 2004, 2008) and has competed in multiple World, European and National Championships. Now part owner of a J/70 that is campaigned in Australia and planning to compete in the J/70 Class Mixed Plus World Championship in June 2025.

Karyn currently serves as the Vice Commodore of the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron, and is also the Deputy Chief Instructor of Australian Sailing's Keelboat program.  She is an accredited Australian Sailing Coach, Senior Dinghy Instructor, Powerboat Instructor, Umpire (Club level), Race Official (Club level), Equipment Auditor (Club level), Judge – protest committee member (Club level).

Karyn is passionate about the sport of sailing and sharing our sport with others. She is the founder of the Ladies of the Sea Coaching Regatta, hosted by Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron, that has been helping to grow female participation in sailing, particularly in recent years.

The session will run through the foundations of safely and effectively hoisting, flying, and dropping spinnakers and for those who are ready, we’ll dive into more detail on spinnaker trim.

This programme will utilise our fleet of F24 keelboats. It is suitable for sailors with previous racing experience who are seeking to extend their racing skills, including sailing competitively with spinnakers.

Sign up with your own crew, or as an individual and we’ll place you in a team. Your coaches will provide guidance on the dock and on the water. If you’re confident sailing without a coach onboard, we’ll guide you from a powerboat on the water. If you’d like a little more guidance onboard, we’ll jump on your boat with you.
