Tackers 3 - 'Sailing Fast!'

We are pleased to welcome participants to our Tackers Program for the April school holidays 2024.  This course will include 4 sessions, in the second week of the April holidays, with a certificate presentation held at the conclusion of the final session.

Please note we are not sialing on Thursday 25 April - ANZAC Day.

All session times are 9:00am to 2:30pm, with a short lunch break mid-day.  

Training will be conducted in the Club's fleet of OziOpti Tacker dinghies.

The registration fee for this course is $340.00

Course Numbers

The NCYC Sailing Academy strictly abides by the Australian Sailing instructor/student ratios, hence places are monitored.  To avoid disapointment, we recommend registering early.

Family Discounts

Families with three children enrolled in our Tackers programs together, either in the school holidays or term-based programs receive a 5% discount.  Families with four children receive a 10% discount.  Please visit our our Course Fees & Discounts page for full details and the use of discount codes.

Member Discounts

Current financial NCYC members are offered a discount on training courses for their children or grandchildren - 10% for General Members and 5% for Crew Members.

NSW Active Kids Vouchers are accepted.

The NCYC Sailing Academy is proud to be an Active Kids Provider. If you would like to use an Active Kids voucher, please submit the voucher number during registration.

NEW VENUE for Tackers Program

All of our Tackers courses will now be run from the NCYC Sailing Centre across the river at Carrington (over the Cowper Street bridge).  Children should be dropped off and picked up from this venue.  There is ample parking in front of the Carrington Police Station and an easy walk up the lane to the Sailing Centre’s entrance gates. Course Overview
This course aims to build on skills learned in Tackers 2 and focuses on advanced sailing skills through games and adventures on the water. 

Course Prerequisites

• Water confident
• 7-12 years-old
• Skills, knowledge and experience gained in Tackers 2

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who have completed Tackers 2.

Course Outcome

By the end of the Tackers 3 course, the participants will be able to:

• Demonstrate the correct method and understand the theory of roll tacking and gybing
• Stopping the boat in a confined areas for a period of time
• Sail backwards
• Understand the theory behind gybing and can demonstrate the action downwind
• Show a sound knowledge of the five essentials:
  • Centreboard position
  • Boat trim
  • Boat balance
  • Course made good
  • Sail trim
• Start and finish races on a triangle and trapezoid course
• Always use tactical mark roundings in races

You will gain your Tackers 3 completion certificate.
