Spinnakers

We are pleased to welcome participants to our Adult Learn to Sail Program (Spinnakers) for February/March 2024.  This course will include four sessions, conducted over the dates as listed above.  ** Please note we are not sailing on Sunday 3rd March **

All session times are 9:00am to 12:00pm

Training will be conducted on the Club's fleet of Force 24 keelboats, which carry an Instructor and up to four course participants.  The boats will be sailed inshore on the water of Newcastle Harbour.

The NCYC Sailing Academy abides by the Australian Sailing instructor:student ratios, hence places are strictly limited.  To avoid disapointment, we recommend registering early.  

The registration fee for this course is $300


Member Discounts

Current financial NCYC members are offered a discount on training courses - 10% for General Members and 5% for Crew Members.

Payment Plans

We do offer weekly payment plans in order to pay for the course in equal instalments over a nominated period.  Full payment must be received prior to the course commencement date.  Please contact the Sailing Office to arrange set up.

Pre-Requisites

As using spinnakers is a more advance sailing skill, it would be necessary for course participants to have completed the Start Crewing and Start Helming courses - or at least have the same level of skill.  If you have any questions regarding your suitability to undertake this course, please just give us a call in the Sailing Office to discuss - 4940 8188.

Course Attendance

This is a 4-week course and, in order to satisfy one of the requirements for issue of the certification, you must attend a minimum of 12 hours. If you miss a session, we offer 'Keelboat Catch Up sessions' once a month.  An additional registration fee applies.  Please see our Academy FAQs for full details and to review Terms & Conditions.

Course Overview

This courses introduces you to the fun and challenge of using an asymmetrical and/or a symmetrical spinnaker.

Course Prerequisites

Water confident, and the skills, knowledge and experience gained in at least the Start Crewing and Start Helming courses.

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who have grasped fundamental sailing skills and want to learn how to use spinnakers; asymmetrical and/or symmetrical. 

Course Outcome

You will gain your Spinnakers completion certificate.
