Tackers 1 - Having Fun!

We are pleased to welcome participants to our Tackers Program for the September school holidays 2023.  This course will include 4 sessions, conducted over consecutive days in the second week of the September holidays, with a certificate presentation held at the conclusion of the final session.

All session times are 9:00am to 3:00pm, with a lunch break mid-day.  

Training will be conducted in the Club's fleet of OziOpti Tacker dinghies.

The registration fee for this course is $315.00. 

If your child doesn't have an AS Number, please begin your registration by clicking on the SIGN UP button and progress through as a new member.  Your child will be allocated a free AS Number as part of the registration process.

Course Numbers

We can accomodate up to 16 students on this course.  The NCYC Sailing Academy strictly abides by the Australian Sailing instructor/student ratios, hence places are limited.  To avoid disapointment, we recommend registering early.

Family Discounts

Families with three children enrolled in our Tackers programs together, either in the school holidays or term-based programs receive a 5% discount.  Families with four children receive a 10% discount.  Please visit our our Course Fees & Discounts page for full details and the use of discount codes.

Member Discounts

Current financial NCYC members are offered a discount on training courses for their children or grandchildren - 10% for General Members and 5% for Crew Members.

 

NSW Active Kids Vouchers are accepted.

The NCYC Sailing Academy is proud to be an Active Kids Provider. If you would like to use an Active Kids voucher, please submit the 16-digit voucher number during registration.

Please also use the discount code ACTIVE50 when you get to the payment section so the voucher value is deducted from your course fee.

NEW VENUE for Tackers Program

All of our Tackers courses will now be run from the NCYC Sailing Centre across the river at Carrington (over the Cowper Street bridge).  Children should be dropped off and picked up from this venue.  There is ample parking in front of the Carrington Police Station and an easy walk up the lane to the Sailing Centre’s entrance gates. Course Overview
This course aims to provide children aged 7-12 with a fun, safe and affordable way to get into sailing. 

Course Prerequisites

• Water confident
• 7-12 years-old

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to have fun and learn the basics of sailing through games on and off the water.

Course Outcome

By the end of the Tackers 1 course, the participants will be able to:

• Steer with tiller extension under towing paddling power
• Tie a figure 8 knot, round twice and two half hitches
• Tack (push turn)
• Gybe (pull turn)
• Reach around a figure of 8 course using both tacking and gybing
• Sail with tiller extension
• Sail upwind and downwind by following the safety boat

You will gain your Tackers 1 completion certificate.
