Start Helming

We are pleased to welcome participants to our MID-WEEK Adult Learn to Sail Program (Start Helming) for January 2024.  This course will include four sessions, conducted over the dates as listed above.

All session times are 9:30am to 1:00pm

Training will be conducted on the Club's fleet of Force 24 keelboats, which carry an Instructor and up to four course participants.  The boats will be sailed inshore on the water of Newcastle Harbour.

The NCYC Sailing Academy abides by the Australian Sailing instructor:student ratios, hence places are strictly limited.  To avoid disapointment, we recommend registering early.  

The registration fee for this course is $345


Member Discounts

Current financial NCYC members are offered a discount on training courses - 10% for General Members and 5% for Crew Members.

Payment Plans

We do offer weekly payment plans in order to pay for the course in equal instalments over a nominated period.  Full payment must be received prior to the course commencement date.  Please contact the Sailing Office to arrange set up.

Course Attendance

This is a 4-week course and, in order to satisfy one of the requirements for issue of the certification, you must attend a minimum of 12 hours. If you miss a session, we offer 'Keelboat Catch Up sessions' once a month.  An additional registration fee applies.  Please see our Academy FAQs for full details and to review Terms & Conditions.
