NCYC SAILING ACADEMY INFORMATION

We are pleased to welcome participants to our Adult Learn to Sail Program (Start Skippering) for October/November, 2021.  This course will include four sessions, conducted over the dates as listed above.

All session times are 9:00am to 12:30pm

Training will be conducted on the Club's fleet of Force 24 keelboats, which carry an Instructor and up to four course participants.  The boats will be sailed inshore on the water of Newcastle Harbour.

The NCYC Sailing Academy abides by the Australian Sailing instructor:student ratios, hence places are strictly limited.  To avoid disapointment, we recommend registering early.  

The registration fee for this course is $350. 


Member Discounts

Current financial NCYC members are offered a discount on training courses - 10% for General Members and 5% for Crew Members.

Payment Plans

We do offer weekly payment plans in order to pay for the course in equal instalments over a nominated period.  Full payment must be received prior to the course commencement date.  Please contact the Sailing Office to arrange set up.

Participant Course Pack 

Participants who completed Start Crewing will have received a pack containing an Introductory Keelboat textbook and an Australian Sailing logbook.  These will be utilised during this course also. 

If you do not have a pack from a previous course and would like to purchse one, you may do so from the Sailing Office at a cost of $40.  Please contact the Sailing Office to arrange to collect.

Course Prerequisites

Water confident and the skills, knowledge and experience you've gained from completing the Start Crewing and Start Helming courses.

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to begin skippering a keelboat, unsupervised.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Start Skippering completion certificate.
