MODIFIED RULES

Here are all the rules for our Fast 5’s tournament:

  • 5 players - 4 field players and a GK in the water at any onetime (for mixed teams, there must be 2 girls and 2 boys in the field at all times)
  • 5 minute running time thirds, (3 X 5 MINS) 1 MIN BETWEEN EACH THIRD
  • BEST OF 3, WITH EACH THIRD scored as individual sets, SIMILAR TO TENNIS
  • TEAM IS WINNER WHEN 2 THIRDS HAVE BEEN WON. IF TEAM WINS FIRST 2 THIRDS, THE FINAL THIRD CAN BE PLAYED OR NOT.
  • GK’S attacking or defending cannot go past their own 5m line to pass or shoot…. if they do the ball will be turned over
  • defending GK’s who create an ordinary foul INSIDE 5m, will result in the attacking team receiving a 5m penalty shot, to be taken within 5 seconds….wow, think fast!!
  • Substitutions can be made when a player is excluded from the penalty box, and for live subs anywhere along the teams sideline OUTSIDE the 5m line to half way line. if a sub is made inside the 5m this will result in a turnover and exclusion for the player who stuffed it.
  • players can have a maximum of 5 exclusions during the game.
  • Exclusions still need to go to the penalty box, marked in red. Players can immediately come back into play once they have entered the penalty box
  • No shot clock - though the referee can call a 'warning' to “move the play on” if the attacking team is not trying to score, by shouting 'move play on', at which point the attacking team has 5 seconds to shoot for a goal, before a turnover is called.
  • after a goal is scored, the referee will re-commence play from the centre by throwing the ball in, within 5 seconds of the goal being scored…. teams ready or not!!.... fast & furious!!
