Week 7 Gravelly Beach

Published Mon 07 Sep 2020

McKenzie runs a great race to cross first at the Newstead Athletics Gravelly Beach run

The new course for 2020 which followed the river from Gravelly Beach almost to Paper Beach, included path, grass, gravel, mud, trail and road, suited young Montana McKenzie as she easily accounted for the other participants to complete the 6km course well ahead of second placed Jen Tait.  Third in this event was Craig Barron.  Ben Giasli finally broke through for a well-deserved win in the 4km event with Sophie Marshall second and Gerard Little third.  In the short course event, it was Anne Green over the line first to easily complete the course a good 3 minutes ahead of second placed Hunter Fitzallen with Matilda Preece in third.

Fastest: In the 6km race, fastest runners were Jennifer Tait and Oliver Marshall.  In the 4km race, Alexander Wood and Sophie Marshall were fastest and in the 2km event it was Annabelle Cook and Xavier Davie.

Paddy Smith Club Consistency: With only 4 events left and a Covid-19 shortened season weekly points are critical.  Top 4 in their respective division are Alex Seen, Denis Giasli, Andrew Seen, Richard Pickup, Ben Giasli, Luke McKenzie, Blaise Fitzallen, Jacquie Spencer, Rohan Crawford, Catherine Preece, Flynn Preece and Eliza Davie.

Our upcoming event is another PB opportunity at Westbury.  This fast course around the village green and town common should be a real show stopper.

PS.  Details about our end of season function will be available later in the week.  Keep your eye out for a communication.
