Week 5 - Greens Beach

Published Tue 18 Aug 2020

Heavy rain on Saturday morning did not deter athletes at Newstead Athletics Greens Beach run

After checking and marking the Greens Beach 4km 6km and 12km events on Friday, our volunteers were pleasantly surprised at how well the trail had held up with Tassies 2020 winter weather.  The heavy rain on Friday night and Saturday morning fortunately stopped before the events, but did wash away some of our marking, causing at least one runner to run further than expected.

This week’s Winners: The Division 1 six km course was won by improving runner Denis Giasli, backing up his win at Heritage the week before.  Second place went to Montana McKenzie with Kirsty Crawford backing up her strong performance from the middle distance race last week in her return to the longer distance.  In the twelve km race, Ben Adams was victorious with Jonathon Death in second and Matthew Zegveld third.  The 4km Division 2 race was won by Isabella Davie with last weeks winner Blaise Fitzallen who seems to have found top gear this season.  Consistent runner Ben Giasli was third.  It appears the rain did keep some of our junior runners away with only 9 competitors in the Division 3 race.  Well done to Riley Howard for his win in this race with Xavier Davie and Rohan Crawford taking the minor placings.

Fastest: Division 1 fastest in the 12km race was Sam Clifford and Tristam Fitzallen.  In the 6km race, Lochlan Bussey and Montana McKenzie set the pace, while in the other divisions, fastest were Isabella Davie, Ben Giasli, Xavier Davie and Savannah McKenzie.

Personal Bests: proved hard to get this week with no PB’s in division one.  Division 2 PB’s were achieve by Blaise Fitzallen, Ben Giasli and Erin Giles and in Division 3 Savannah McKenzie was the only athlete who managed a PB
