Week 4 - Heritage # 2

Published Sat 08 Aug 2020

Saturday’s cross country event for Newstead Athletics was due to be held at Hoblers bridge however, inspection of the track on Friday uncovered snow damage. Not only were there fallen trees over the track but also compromised trees still standing. Safety concerns forced plan B. A hurried attempt to contact everyone was executed. The last minute change of venue to Heritage Forest allowed our runners to check their progress from only a few weeks ago.

This week’s Winners: Division 1 was won by Kirsty Crawford, closely followed by Alex Seen with his father Andrew right on his heals. In Division 2 Blaise Fitzallen came away with the win and a big PB, Ben Giasli continued his bridesmaid performance with his fourth 2nd place for the season and Cath Barker’s third was yet another pb from our first event of the season. Rohan Crawford won the 1.5km race with Catherine Preece second and Annabelle Cook third.

Fastest:Division 1 fastest were Oliver Marshall and Jennifer Tait. Division 2 Lachlan Preece and Sophie Marshall and Division 3 fastest was a family affair for Annabelle Cook and brother Hamish.

Personal Bests: This event is not a PB event (as it was meant to be Hoblers Bridge) however a comparison to our first event at the same venue at the beginning of the season provided some great results. In Division 1, the first 9 athletes over the line improved on their venue times with several others further down the leader board, in all half the field improved on previous times. For the Division 2 and 3 races there were again many improvements and a couple of athletes who recorded exactly the same km rate as a few weeks ago. Well done all of you.

Our Consistency Competition: The Interim ladder after round 4 shows Alex and Andrew Seen on top of the Division 1 contest, closely followed by Denis Giasli. In the Division 2 competition Ben Giasli is well in front with Sophie Marshall, Jacquie Spencer, Lachlan Preece, Blaise Fitzallen and Luke McKenzie all within reach of the prize. In the division 3 event Flynn Preece is on top with Catherine Preece only 1 point behind. Check out the details on the results page.
