Perfect Conditions for Tailrace Park

On Saturday 1st May, Launceston turned on some truly lovely autumn weather for Newstead Athletics’ first School Series run for the season at Tailrace Park. Club runners ran in a sealed handicap for combined schools series races and normal handicap for the 5km Division 1 race.

Alexander Wood ran a speedy 17.34 in the 5km event to outclass our other runners on the day.  Second was Ben Adams (again) with Jonathon Death third.   In the sealed handicap 3km race, Caleb Pool ran a great race to be first with Abigail Rigney second and Josiah Pool third.  For the 1.5km sealed handicap it was Rohan Crawford first with Kade Barwick second (again) and Dale Kean third.

Fastest club runners for the day in each event were Kade Barwick, Savannah McKenzie, Sophie Marshall, Lochlan Bussey, Alexander Wood and Jennifer Tait in their respective races.

For the school series events we had over 170 runners in a series that was unfortunately not run in 2020 due to Covid-19. A big” Welcome” to new runners and “Welcome back” to previous runners in this event.  Thank you so much to club volunteers who stepped up on an extremely busy day to ensure we had a very successful and smoothly run event.
