Borrowing Players
BORROWING PLAYERS
MWSA has decided to implement the following special rules for the 2024/5 season (only):
🥎 A Grade/Division 1:
- If a team when short is unable to find players from lower grades/divisions in their own club, having diligently explored all avenues, it is approved to borrow players from other A Grade/Div 1 teams, respectively.
- There are no restrictions on how many times this happens per season or where the borrowed player fields/bats.
- Teams must record the name of borrowed players in the Scoring App. If this is found to not be happening, a forfeit may be declared on that team.
This rule applies to all round games, but not finals.
🥎 Other Grades & Divisions:
- If a team when short is unable to find eligible players from same grades/divisions or lower within their club, having diligently explored all avenues, it is approved to borrow players from other clubs in the same grade/division or lower as long as the following occurs:
- there are 4 of the team’s first registered players playing in the match
- the Presidents of both clubs (or their delegate) must be notified of the proposed concession & approve it occurring. (NB - the 2 clubs are the club of the team borrowing the player & the club from where the borrowed player is first registered)
- a player can only be borrowed in such circumstances 3 times in any team for the season (ie. not 3 per team) - matches played in rounds 1 to 3 are included as part of the 3 limit.
- teams must record the name of borrowed players in the Scoring App. If this is found to not be happening a forfeit may be declared on that team
- the player must bat at the end of the line up and must field in the outfield. If there are more than 3 borrowed players under this rule they may also field at 2nd or 3rd base.
There are no restrictions on how many times a team borrows players under this rule during the round games this rule applies to all round games, but not finals.
Just to be clear, Rule 8.8 still applies – ie that a player can only be borrowed up or across 4 times during the season and on 5th play up/across, the player is automatically registered in the lowest graded team that the player played-up for. Exception: A Grade and Div 1 are allowed unlimited playups.
Bear in mind that the 13 years age limit also applies to juniors playing in seniors, where MWSA Committee approval is required (either via the grading process or on application)
