Pride Round

Published Fri 30 Aug 2019

In September this year, Melbourne University Sport will launch its LGBTQI+ inclusion policy. The policy is being implemented as part of the Pride in Sport program, an initiative that seeks to welcome and celebrate the University’s diversity and that aims to provide a safe place for all LGBTQI+ people to participate in sport.

To show our support for the policy and the Pride in Sport initiative, Melbourne University Water Polo Club will be co-hosting a Pride Round together with Melbourne Surge and Monash University Water Polo Clubs. This will be split over Rounds 10 and 11 of the 2019 State Championships.

The aims of the Pride Round are:

  1. To show that the Water Polo community stands against homophobia and practices which discriminate against members of the LGBTQI+ community
  2. To create a safe and inclusive environment for LGBTQI+ players and community members to participate.

We would love to see as many other Clubs, supporters and members of the community down on pool deck across this round in support of the Pride Round.

Melbourne University Water Polo Club, with the support of Delfina Sport, will be selling limited edition Pride Bathers which may be purchased by all members of the community. 20% of all the bathers sales will be donated to Proud2Play, a community organisation that supports LGBTQI+ inclusion in sport.

To be sure you have your Pride bathers in time for Pride Round, pre-order now. Pre-orders will strictly close Thursday September 5 to ensure they arrive in time for Pride Round. If you have any questions about sizing, please email president@mupolo.com.au prior to ordering.
