Due to the 2021 WPV Winter Competition finishing abruptly at Round 5 of 10, MUPolo will be offering a refund or discount of $95 to those who were invoiced match fees during this season.
For players returning next season, this discount will be automatically applied to your 2021/22 Match Fees, so you do not need to do anything to receive your credit. If, sadly, you won’t be coming back, or you would prefer to have this credit refunded directly to your bank account please email us at treasurer@mupolo.com.au by Friday 8 October 2021 with your account name, BSB and Account number.
For members who are yet to pay their 2021 Winter Match Fees, this credit has been applied to your existing invoice and payment is due immediately. Members with outstanding fees will not be able to play in the 2021/22 competition seasons until all outstanding fees are paid, or alternative arrangement approved by Club President and Treasurer.
In line with the Victoria's Roadmap, the return to community sport training will be permitted to commence from the 70% double dose vaccination date (late-October). We are expecting training to commence with restrictions on numbers at this time. From the 80% double dose vaccination date (mid-November), competition is envisaged to be permitted to return, with minimum numbers required.
These dates are exciting and close but we will move with caution subject to confirmation from Melbourne University Sport, WPV and our training venues permitting access and return to sport.
While it is unclear at this stage as to whether proof of vaccination will be required in order to attend MSAC, the University of Melbourne has recently announced a vaccination requirement for all students, staff, contractors and visitors attending campuses. We encourage all our members who are able to get vaccinated to seek medical advice and get vaccinated as soon as is practical. You can read more about the University of Melbourne response here.
Socially, MUPOLO has been working hard to keep everyone as connected as possible. Our weekly challenges are seeing a fantastic response across the board. We got to watch everyone struggle through the handstand challenge and get in touch with nature by smashing out 10,000 steps the week after. Sam Barnes is the proud new owner of a MUPOLO face mask and long sleeve shirt after clocking 10,008 steps. If you’re looking for a chance to win, keep your eyes peeled for more fun and easy challenges coming to a weekend near you!
We were pleased to see so many familiar faces on our Grand Final Day Zoom! Phoebe Nadenbousch will be dining in style this week thanks to a $20 Prezee gift card from winning our tipping giveaway. Showing her extensive knowledge of the AFL, Phoebe predicted the grand final score within 5 points. Well done Phoebe!
Lastly, MUPOLO is already well underway organising our next event, a Zoom coffee cupping/tasting session. Prices are currently being finalised but expect the tickets to be released soon. Come along to learn about the origins of different coffee beans, why coffee beans are actually seeds, and much more! Coffee aficionados rejoice.
The 2021/22 Club Membership fees are still under review. Our club fees are to be set once we have confirmation from WPV as to their fee structure for the 2021/22 season.
Water Polo Australia have established a new membership model and fee structure for the 2021/22 season including many member benefits available to all registered members. You can read about the new structure, and the included benefits including accessing some of them immediately on the WPA website here. https://www.waterpoloaustralia.com.au/get-involved/membership/
In exciting news, WPV and the High Performance Advisory Panel (HPAP) have announced Victoria will once again be home to a National League Club. This team, composed of Victoria’s top water polo players, will participate in the Australian Water Polo League Competition (AWL) in 2022.
This team is a great development for water polo in Victoria and one that presents exciting opportunities for our club, Melbourne University Sport and the University in general. This team provides the opportunity for students to maintain high-performance competition whilst studying at the university. For the club, it provides the opportunity for development, increased competition, and the opportunity to attract high-performance athletes from Victoria and interstate. Previous to this team, advanced water polo players seeking national level competition have often moved interstate where teams existed in the AWL.
If this sounds like something you’re interested here’s some more info:
Eligibility: Any player who is already playing (or has played) in AWL or previously National League teams, at a high standard in WPVic State League 1 (or equivalent). All Victorian based players selected in the AWL teams must continue to train and play for their State League team leading up to and throughout the AWL season.
How to get involved: complete the EOI Form which closes Friday 1st October 2021.
Training: To enable players to get some fitness and skills practice before final VNLWPC selections, training at MSAC commencing from Monday 20 September will be available as part of a new senior WPVic Academy Squad. This will require a HP Exemption (Work Permit) to be provided under existing COVID Lockdown restrictions before starting participating. This is not mandatory for VNLWPC selections.
Squad selection: Following 3 weeks of trials from 10 October 2021 to the end of October (Covid permitting), a final squad of approximately 18 male and 18 female will be selected.
