Every year in July Coochiemudlo Island comes alive in commemoration of the landing of Matthew Flinders there in 1799. Virtually the whole island turn out in period costume and there is a reenactment of the landing with Matthew Flinders himself arriving by longboat. There is a parade, market and food stalls galore on Sunday and usually several historic wooden boats turn out. Some of us will arrive on Saturday and share sundowners ashore, others will come down for the day on Sunday to the quiet anchorage off Norfolk Beach. This is a great cruise for those members 'between boats' to come over to Coochimudlo on the ferry and join in with the festivities.
