How it all started
In August 2016 the Upper Kiewa Vally Cancer Support Group visited Brave Hearts in Albury Wodonga for a fun day to try dragon boating paddling.
The President Trish Dixon steered the project afterwards to bring Dragon Boating to Mt Beauty hosting an inaugural community meeting to gauge interest.
The town was lucky to have a local sweep Steve Blair living here and other contacts to help drive the initiative.
The Club was soon formed and were lucky enough to be able to loan a boat for 12 months from Dragon Boat Victoria.
The Neighbourhood Centre gave the club a place to keep it under cover and the Cricket Club lent a trolley to use to launch it into the water.
AGL have allowed the Club to paddle on their Regulating Pondage.
The Clubs first launch day was held on 2nd Oct 2016. With 80 people attending. There was the Dotting if the Eye Ceremony held with Christine Gabrielle and Trish Dixon officiating.
The Club initially had generous and ongoing sponsorship from Mt Beauty Haberdashery and Hardware and the Bendigo Bank.
The Club has been mentored and supported along its journey from Brave Hearts DBC, Warriors AWDBC and Dragon Boat Victoria.
Recent sponsorship has been given from Alpine Shire Bright, Bendigo Bank Smarty Grants, CSU Active Club Grants and the Commonwealth Bank.
