Course information
Sailing two person pacer dinghies, Mornington Yacht Club provides Learn to Sail courses for those wanting to learn the fundamental skills of sailing in a fun, safe and supportive environment.
The OutThere Youth Sailing courses are for 12-17 year old's.
Where to meet
On the first day of the course please meet your instructors upstairs in the Mornington Yacht Club club house at 8.50 am.
What to bring
Compulsory
- Hat
- Shoes that can be worn in the water. Ie Sneakers or reef shoes
- Sunscreen
- Shorts and sleeved shirt (thermal tops are good)
- If it is cold, fleece jumper or multiple thermals (that can get wet)
- Water (drink bottle)
- Snacks (preferably in a lunch box)
Recommended
- Sunglasses
- Bathers
- Waterproof “spray jacket”
- Towel
- Plastic bag for wet shoes and clothes
- Pen and paper to take notes
- Wetsuit if you have available
- Please do not bring any valuables or wear jewellery that can be lost in sand or water.
Overview
OutThere Sailing 1 is a great introduction to the sport of sailing and the skills required but will still focus on fun with friends. The program provides a wide variety of on water activities that will introduce sailing and, depending on your club, an opportunity to experience stand up paddle boarding, windsurfing and power boating. You will learn skills through exciting exercises and put them to good use in fun, on-water activities.
Prerequisites
Water confident.
Who should do this program?
This program is designed for participants who are 12-17 years-old looking to try a new activity, have some fun and engage with others whilst sailing.
