To the Maccabi Basketball community,
It’s a pleasure to be able to welcome you back to another exciting year for the club.
In what will be my 4th official year as president, I am grateful to be able to continue my role with the club in such a successful position, with memberships continuing to rise, which has assisted the club in becoming financially stable. Much of this success can be attributed to the driven and passionate committee that surrounds me, in addition to our coaches and volunteers that help the club run on a day-to-day basis.
2022 was a great success for the basketball club. We were able to continue our growth trajectory established in previous years, whilst maintaining and building our strong relationships with Jewish day schools; Kesser Torah, Mount Sinai and Moriah College. Across the year the club boasted 32 junior teams in addition to 5 senior teams. We are also proud of the fact that we finished the year with 6 girls teams after commencing with just 1. We are intent on continuing to increase this number over the coming years.
In 2022, we were also began offering high performance training sessions to a select group of our juniors, who were skilled in strength and conditioning practices to assist them with their development off the court. This is an initiative that we hope to expand to a wider group of players in 2023 with the aim of strengthening the quality of basketball across the club. The sessions are run by a specialist physio who I have personally worked with in the past. He has worked with athletes at the highest level, including the NBA, AFL and NBL. I am personally very excited by this prospect, as it seeks to enable Maccabi junior players to acquire the necessary skills to develop their bodies, allowing them to take their game to the next level.
Another exciting initiative continuing in the new year is our seniors social competition. The social competition facilitates a platform for young adults in the community to interact via basketball in a social yet competitive setting. The competition will be run in a 4v4 format at Waverley College on Thursday evenings, with the competition already in its 3rd season. Any enquiries can be made to matt@maccabibasketballnsw.com.
Finally, I’d like to conclude my address by thanking our club sponsors, who make this all possible. Their generosity enables us to provide the great product we do to our members across the club, which we are exceptionally grateful for. Our 5 major sponsors for 2023 are Century 21 Feller & Taylor, Chargrill Charlies, Haben, Learn & Laugh and Moore Park Supa Centa. We hope you’re able to return the favour when possible by supporting these brands.
I look forward to seeing everyone around the club in 2023, and hope for another year of growth and success for Maccabi Basketball.
All the best,
Brad Rosen – Club President
