President's Address 2021/ Shane Heal Joins

Published Mon 01 Mar 2021

Dear Maccabi Basketballers, families and friends,

Firstly let me start by welcoming back our players, coaches and club members to season 2021, which is already showing signs of a promising year for the club.

As we all know, 2020 was one crazy year. Ironically the basketball club went from strength to strength. We were able to grow the club by more than 100 additional members from the previous year. This was able to be done from a very enthusiastic committee as well as fantastic support from our coaches and team managers.

In 2020 we were able to join schools such as Mount Sinai and Kesser Torah, who are now part of the Maccabi basketball family. We look forward to continuing the strong relationship we have with them and are also looking to bring other schools on board with us as well.

2021 is going to be a fantastic year. Unfortunately, we had a slight hiccup with some training venues due to building issues ,but we have been able to work around this and are looking forward to being able to supply you with a fantastic training experience, great coaches and enjoyable games.

This year, Maccabi has placed a bigger emphasis on our female athletes, which has included the introduction of a girls training session for the first time, as well as a specialised girls trainer to go along with it. As of today we have attracted 15 new girl trainers, to go along with our existing girls teams.

Here at Maccabi, we’re also very excited to announce that as of this week, 4 time Olympian, NBA player and NBL Champion Shane Heal is joining the team to “Coach the coaches”. Shane has an abundance of experience coaching at the junior and professional level, as displayed by his time at the Sydney Kings, South Melbourne Dragons and Sutherland Sharks. Shane’s role will see him guiding and developing our coaches across all age groups, improving the structure and calibre of trainings for all our players. Shane and I have had a number of chats and our goal is to be able to give your children the best experience when learning the game of basketball. It is important to us that they learn all aspects and make it extremely enjoyable. We welcome Shane and can't wait for him to get him started.

Finally, I would like to thank our four sponsors for their ongoing support over the course of the past year and into the future. Our sponsors: Learn & Laugh, Brampton Finance, Chargrill Charlies and Moore Park Supa Centa have been a major key to keeping this club alive and well through the challenges the past year have presented us.

As mentioned previously, 2021 promises to be an exciting and fulfilling year for everyone involved with the club, fuelled by club growth, passion and on court success.

Take care,

Brad Rosen
