Melbourne Lakeside Table Tennis

About

Melbourne Lakeside Table Tennis was formerly the Victorian Public Service Table Tennis Association (VPSTTA), which commenced in 1937 and was located at the old Albert Park indoor sports centre in Albert Road.  The VPSTTA held a weekly competition on Thursday nights and competed in the annual Australian Public Service Table Tennis Championships.  The VPSTTA was supported by the Victorian State Government.

The old Albert Park centre was closed and demolished in 1997 and in July 1997 was replaced with the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC), which was built a short distance down Albert Road within the Albert Park Lake precinct.  A new table tennis venue meant a new name for our club and so Melbourne Lakeside was created.  It continued to hold its weekly competition on Thursday nights but was opened up to be made available to all players, not just public servants.  Players from Melbourne Lakeside continue to compete in the Australian Public Service Table Tennis Championships when they are held.

Claude Carbonaro was President of the VPSTTA and then Melbourne Lakeside from 1987 to February 2022, an amazing 35 years.  Claude received Table Tennis Victoria's Volunteer of the Year Award in 1996 for his dedicated service to the VPSTTA.

As of December 2020, Melbourne Lakeside became a member club under the Albert Park Table Tennis Association.
