Course information
Camping is available at club. This must be booked on a separate camping registration form which is accessed at: https://www.hmyc.org.za/documents/ or should be available for download below. Families are welcome to camp over the duration of the course.
Meals can also be booked closer to the time and the food will be available from the Galley at the club.
Buoyancy-aids are available and must not be taken home. Helmets to be worn by level 1 attendees.
The First Step in learning to Sail.
The Learn to Sail Program is a 4 Stage process specificially designed as increments to bring you to the point of being able to sail your own boat.
This program is offered our of SA Sailing Regonised Training Centre (RTC) well-structured training centre with good quality training equipment can offer participants new to sailing a positive and enjoyable experience in a safe environment.. SA Sailing RTC's are subject to annual inspections and audits to help ensure your safe enjoyment of our sport.
The lessons and program are run by trained SA Sailing qualified instructors who have been taught the steps and methodogy to provide the SA Sailing Learn to Sailing Program, which has carries World Sailing (The International Federation for Sailing) accredited
In this Course, practical skills are gained by,
- Introduction of tacking and reaching
- Introduces the participant to Sailing termonology
- Provides basic sailing knowledge
- and, provides knowledge of the sailing Circle
On completion of this level you will have a basic understanding of how a boat sails, be able to sail a boat on a reach and go about in 5-10 knots of wind.
