Meteors Contingent Support the Oceania Cup 2019

Published Thu 05 Sep 2019

Yesterday 51 members of our Meteors family packed themselves into 2 busses and headed to Rockhampton to watch Australia v New Zealand (men and women) in the Oceania cup 2019 openers.

The Aussie men played some great hockey and took NZ team down 4-0. The women put on a fantastic show that had the crowd cheering and on the edge of their seat but unfortunately went down 3-1.

The halftime entertainment of Rockhampton members and the mascots playing orb ball soccer was a massive hit with the younger generation calling for a purchase of orb balls for club fun days.

The best game was left for last when the CQ Mudturtles took on the Legends of the Athens 2004 Olympic team including local legends Mark Knowles and Jamie Dwyer. The Mudturtles tried their best and did get the first goal but the old guys proved they still have it even when they are just having a fun game and won convincingly 7-2.

It was such a treat for both our young and old members getting to watch and meet with some of their favourite players. A massive thanks needs to go to Rockhampton Hockey Association as well as Barbara Knowles and team for bringing this event to our region. Definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity for our club members and we all had a brilliant time. Great way to start the Grand Final weekend festivities!
