Labour Day Regatta

Published Mon 10 Mar 2025

Wow!  What a day!  Under Martin’s incredible guidance, the Labour Day 3-Race Regatta was a great success, possibly the greatest ever.   With the wind gusting from 0 to 15+knots and swinging from east to west, from north to south, it was a challenging day.  Apparently, too much for some sailors who have fled to Japan and South America.

Liam decided to capsize and have an early swim with his trusty crew, Etienne.  Liam even invited his dad in to join him. Peter saw how much Tom was enjoying himself so allowed Tom to swim after ML11 as it drifted away from him. So kind.

Meanwhile, not to be outdone by Toby’s late arrival that saw him miss Race 1, Mitch stayed true to form and arrived so late that he missed both Race 1 and Race 2.  Then again, Mitch absolutely thrashed Toby in Race 3, so maybe he was saving himself!

Finally, I think after such a day, it’s clear that the Merricks Dream is unstoppable, and our club is on the verge of a comeback the likes of which Westernport Bay Gulf of Merricks has never witnessed and perhaps will never witness again. Never been anything like it.
