Hole in one at Victoria

Published Mon 14 Apr 2025

As only Dermot could tell it.

“Playing good solid bogey and double bogey golf up to this hole, I was pleased to see a distance I might have a chance to reach in two given my form at this point.

But the 9-iron hit felt good, and the ball disappeared over the front part of the green. As the 14th hole is uphill the final resting place for any shot reaching the green cannot be seen.

On reaching the green I could not see the ball, so a check of the back and the left-hand bunkers was undertaken but they were bare.

It was with a level of bravado that a check of the hole revelled that ball had indeed found its intended target.

A few shouts of glee and fist pumps followed perhaps putting off a few other golfers’ midst their backswings on various tees around the course.

One of my first thoughts was I had finally equalled my wife’s 2 Hole in Ones and at last that monkey was finally off my back.

I was so pumped I hit my drive on the following short par 4 onto the green and just missed the eagle putt. Walking to the next par 3 hole I was contemplating a run at some senior’s events now that I had finally conquered this simple game.

But true to form for the golfing gods, I scrambled two double bogies on the next two holes to bring balance back into the world.

The Seniors Golfing tour can relax”

It was a special occasion, and I could not have asked for a better course, company, and event to make the Hole in One. The MCC Golf days are special, and it was made extra special by the generous reception of the MCC Golf sections members.

Thanks Dermot and congratulations
