Event information
Mounts Bay Sailing Club is a registered Australian Sailing Training Centre and for those looking for an introduction into the sport or to further their knowledge, we can offer a range of training courses conducted by qualified, knowledgeable and experienced instructors.
Accredited courses such as the Recreational Skipper’s Ticket and the National Power Boat Handling Course are run at the club throughout the year, for more information please click on the below courses.
Recreational Skippers Ticket (RST)
The Recreational Skippers Ticket (RST) is a nationally recognised certificate of competency which shows that the holder has the minimum knowledge and practical skills needed to operate a powerboat safely.
The RST course consists of a Theory and Practical component. Below is an outline of what each component entails.
Theory Session
The theory component of the course will need to be reviewed and an online trainig session will be arrnaged with your instructor. This includes 5 hours of tuition, where we will review the entire RST workbook with you, as well as 1 hour to sit the multiple choice theory assessment.
To pass the theory portion of the RST you will need to obtain a mark of 80% or higher. You will not be able to complete the practical assessment until you successfully pass the theory assessment. With over 16 years of experience in teaching the RST course, we will provide you with a comprehensive review of the syllabus so there is no need for pre-learning.
If you do not yet have a copy of the RST workbook you can download it for free from the, Department of Transport Website, alternatively you can order a hard copy by ringing the RST Info Line on 13 11 56.
Please bring to the theory session:
• Photo ID – If you have a driver’s licence with a photo this will both prove who you are and that your eyesight meets the minimum requirement to drive a boat. If you do not have a driver’s license you will need to have an eyesight test completed on an approved form and provide several pieces of alternate identification.
• If the participant is under 18 we will also require a signed letter of consent on an approved form. Please give the Club a call on 9386-5839 for more information if you fall in this category.
• A notebook and pen
Practical Training Session
