Mannum Dragons (Mannum Dragon Boat Club)
The Rev. John Thompson introduced the idea of Dragon Boat paddling to Mannum in November 2015 and the first meeting was held in January 2016. The club was set up in affiliation with Adelaide Survivors Abreast who offered coaching, admin support and a constitution until September 2020. The club was originally known as Mannum Paddle Steamers Dragon Boat Club.
Now called Mannum Dragon Boat Club (Mannum Dragons for short) the club aims to promote a healthy lifestyle through fun and fitness at a level which suits the individual.
It is our aim to train on the Murray River three times a week, including a social paddle on Sunday mornings. We usually have a coffee or drink at Mannum Community Club after paddling.
We offer 1 consecutive month free under Dragon Pass. to anyone over 12 years of age, to allow you to assess if Dragon Boating is for you. We have life jackets and paddles for you to use and welcome all who are interested.
Club members who choose to race compete in race events such as the regular DBSA season, State Championships and Masters Games.
Racing can be exhilirating but it's not for everyone so social paddlers are most welcome at the club.
Training:
Although Dragon Boat racing is a summer sport Mannum Dragons paddle all year round (weather permitting) in order to maintain fitness levels. Times are as below but may vary due to weather conditions.
Location:
Our boats are stored beneath Mannum Community Club (river side), on Wattle Street and we launch the boat from the ramp near the rowing club at Mary Ann Reserve, Mannum.
