22nd MACCABIAH GAMES 2025 (M25)

Now more than ever - Israel needs you to be part M25 and stand as One in support of our Jewish identity.

We are delighted to announce the official launch of Team Australia, the Maccabi Australia (MAI) delegation to the 22nd Maccabiah Games in July 2025 (known as M25, or the Games). M25 will take place from 8-22 July 2025. MAI will hold a Pre-Camp 3-7 July 2025.

Every four years the "Jewish Olympics" brings together around 10,000 athletes from across the globe to compete in 45 Sports and be immersed in Jewish culture. For over 90 years, the Maccabiah Games have exemplified the power of sports to foster unity and pride within the Jewish Community. The Maccabiah is the pinnacle of Jewish sport and provides the opportunity for selected athletes to compete at the highest level, igniting their competitive spirit whilst making lifelong friends from across the globe.

These games will be different given the October 7th tragedy and the ongoing conflict. However, Maccabi World Union (MWU) has decided that the Games are going ahead regardless, and they has called on Jewish Athletes from across the globe to be part of these Maccabiah games and show support for Israel and the Jewish People - "NOW MORE THEN EVER" . Our goal is to build the biggest team we can to Connect as One with Israel. The Games will include solidarity missions and volunteering options as we lean in to help with the recovery.

This will be a significant moment in our history and will provide a platform for us to Connect as One Community showing our strength and standing up proudly for Israel.

We are pleased to invite you to apply now to be a Team Member and be part of this historic event.

Applications for all athletes - Juniors, Open, Masters and Para divisions are open from 1st April until 30 June 2024. Applications are also currently open for some Team officials including Team Managers and Coaches.

APPLICATIONS FOR TEAM AUSTRALIA

To become a Team Member, you will go through a selection process governed by the Maccabiah Australian Team Selection By-Laws (By-Laws), which can be accessed here.

The first stage of the process is for you to submit the online application form below, in which you will verify your eligibility to participate and provide relevant details, and to pay a non-refundable $50 application fee. Maccabi Australia (MAI) will assess your eligibility and will notify you about whether we accept your application to participate.

If your application is accepted, you will proceed to the selection stage. This will involve either trials or qualification (depending on your sport).

Trials will be conducted between June and September 2024.

 If you are selected at trial or qualify (as the case may be), MAI will offer you a place on the Team. To accept an offer, you will need to sign the Team Membership Agreement, and make the first payment of Team fees.

MAI sets the timetable for this process and can amend the timetable at its discretion. If you have any questions or concerns through the process, please contact me and I will assist you along your application journey and wish you well in this process.

With warm Maccabi Greetings

BEFORE YOU START

Before you submit your application to become a Team Member, it is important that you understand our Team Vision and Values, and that you are willing to commit to the Team's standards of behaviour. In the application process, you will be required to agree to comply with all Team rules, and to accept the disciplinary consequences of breaching our standards or rules.

Team Vision

Our Vision for the Games is to advance MAI's goal to develop and strengthen the Australian Jewish community through sport and wellness, by:

·       ensuring the safety, security and welfare of the Team;

·       providing athletes with the best available support so they can strive for sporting excellence;

·       building a strong Team culture which is based on Maccabi's Values; and

·       making meaningful connections within the community, including developing and deepening a sense of connection to one another, the Maccabi movement, and Israel.

2.2 Values

The Maccabi Values, set out below, should be at the centre of everything we do. Both during the application and selection process, and (if you become a Team Member) through to the end of the Games, you must always act in accordance with these Values.

1        Respect – incorporating respect for oneself, one's body, for others, for the rules and regulations, for sport, for our community and for the environment. When it comes to sport, respect stands for fair play, winning with humility and standing against discrimination and any other unethical behaviour in a professional and courteous manner.

2        Community – acting consciously to inspire the trust of everyone whose lives we touch by modelling the highest standards of honesty and integrity. We should carry our Jewishness with pride and conduct ourselves in ways that make the Jewish community proud, and that help foster our interconnectedness.

3        Teamwork – success and excellence can only be achieved and sustained by a deep commitment to working as a team and the practice of focusing on collective, rather than individual, effort and rewards.

4        Volunteerism – remaining accountable to other athletes and officials and value the work of the volunteers who are at the heart of our organisation. We aim to promote open and transparent management processes and always to engage in authentic consultation with our stakeholders.

2.3 Refusal, suspension and revocation for misconduct

While we are expecting a positive and exciting experience for everyone, we also need you to know that MAI takes integrity issues very seriously, and what the consequences of misconduct might be. MAI may refuse a person's application at any stage of the application or selection process, or suspend or revoke the person's membership of the Team, if the person has at any time:

(a)             engaged in conduct which:

·       is a breach of MAI's Code of Conduct or any other of MAI's Integrity Policies (which you can read here) and the Team's Rules (which you can read here);

·       has brought, brings, or would have the tendency to bring into disrepute any of the Team, MAI or Maccabi generally, and/or the relevant sport; and/or

·       is otherwise inconsistent with the values, best interests, or image of the Team, MAI or Maccabi generally; and/or

(b)            been convicted of, or charged with, any offence involving violence, alcohol or drugs, or any sex offence, or any offence relating to any gambling activities in sport, or any indictable offence; and/or

(c)             intentionally and seriously breached a direction made by Team management.

If (a) or (b) above applies to you, you must disclose details of the situation in the form below. If you are selected and become a Team Member, and any of the situations in (a) or (b) applies to you in future, you must disclose details of the situation to the General Manager.
