CELEBRATING 40 YEARS 1984-2024
Welcome to the Longreach Athletics Club and to being part of our athletics family.
We are proud to be 40 years old and looking forward to another fantastic year. We will be celebrating this HUGE Milestone with a dinner (more information to follow) on the Saturday 27th April 2024 & a club meet on Sunday 28th April 2024!
We certainly acknowledge all our life members and thank them, as well as our previous and future members for being part of our fantastic club. We hope you enjoy the season.
The Club has been going strong since 1984. There have been many changes in that time. We started at the State Primary to what we have now, a revamped clubhouse and bigger canteen, storage for all equipment, a new awning in front of the storage shed, a new synthetic surface on our jumps area, we have a 400m track and shade for the officials and athletes. The building which houses our IT and Photo Finish team is strategically located to allow us to be more professional and allows our club meets and carnivals to run smoothly. We are the proud owners of photo finish camera, computerized programs and up to date IT and Data equipment. We are one of only a few clubs that can offer as much as we do to our members. Our Club would certainly like to thank the Longreach State High School for working with our Club over the many years - we have a very strong working relationship - which is wonderful.
The Club has qualified Coaches and Officials with 3 coaching afternoon a week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday – which certainly helps our athletes achieve their personal goals. The Club has 12 Club Days throughout the year and also has the Outback Sunset Carnival in August held in conjunction with North West Regional Sport. As a Club this year we would like to attend various major carnivals in Emerald, Townsville & Mackay. By attending these carnivals it improves our athletes - both physically and mentally.
Our club really encourages our parents or interested people to become involved. Without your assistance, we cannot conduct a full program of events. The more parent “helpers” we have the smoother the program will run. This gives your child and the other members a better chance to compete and reach their goals.
My committee and I look forward to welcoming you to our friendly, family orientated, Athletics Club and hope you enjoy your year.
Yours in Athletics,
John Palmer
