  • Developing Players - new to the sport, but have played a few games

Important information

All gear hire is included in the cost of the ticket ($15) including skates. You must wear a full hockey kit for this session

The session on the ice is at 5:15pm sharp! Getting dressed into a full kit of hockey gear takes longer than you think so please arrive at the event start time. The session on the ice is 1 hour. It takes around 20 minutes at the end to take your hockey gear off so allow around 2 hours for the whole event.

This event is for beginners - no hockey experience is necessary however you must have some basic skating experience as you'll get a lot more out of the session. If you can move in a forward direction, unassisted and not holding onto the wall, you'll be eligible for this event.

It gets hot playing hockey! Please wear exercise clothing. Most of us wear tights/skins/sports shorts and an exercise top. Make sure you bring a jacket for your arrival.

After the session we're heading to the Sporting Globe at Northland for some post hockey drinks and snacks, hope to see you there!*

How a Scrimmage works

We will match each team based on skill so you're up against others of similar levels. You'll have roughly a 5 minute warm up to get comfortable on the ice again, have a skate around, practice handling a puck etc. Then we start!

The first line team will start out on the ice, pick a spot! There is always 3 forward players and 2 defenders. You'll have experienced players on the bench helping you every step of the way, so please ask questions if you're unsure! Remember, its a beginner friendly match so don't worry if you're not always in the right spot or if you miss the puck!

We will have a timer going off every 90 seconds, this is when you skate back to the bench and the next set of players go on. We will open the doors so no need to jump over the benches in this match.

*drinks and snacks will not be provided by the club
