December update 2023

Published Sun 31 Dec 2023

Since our last newsletter, your Club committee and volunteers have been busy attending to important off-season tasks. Our first round will be here before we know it!

While our club strategy is to build a sustainable and successful future through our junior programs, we must also periodically recruit players into our senior squad to add necessary capabilities we cannot fill immediately from within. Our senior coaching and management panel have been busy identifying suitable talent and have successfully landed some valuable additions to our club. LFNC would like to welcome Cooper Ellis and Ryan Bell to our ranks.Cooper comes to us from St. Albans in the western suburbs of Melbourne, while Ryan comes across from South Barwon. And of course, we hope to see Devon Smith take the field in 2024, having recovered from his Achilles Tendon injury during the last pre-season.

Our senior women’s side will see a change in coaching setup for 2024,with Eliza Wilson-McDonald appointed to the head role during November. Eliza moved to Lara a few years ago and has played for our senior women's team the past 2 years, winning our B&F in her first year. She has played over 100 games during her career, beginning with juniors at Mount Martha, along with stints at Mornington Football Netball Club, VFLW Coates Talent League U18 - Dandenong Stingrays, and Geelong Cats VFLW. She has also coached various teams along the way. Eliza is very excited to be a part of a bright future here at Lara for our senior women and junior girls playing groups. With her experience across the VFLW /AFLW system she is well placed to continue building on the foundations and development set by Scotty, Jono and those before her.

While we’re at it, thanks very much to Scotty and Jono for their work with the side in 2023, which surpassed our hopes and in many ways was a breakout season for the club.

In other coaching news, we have been progressively interviewing applicants for senior line coaches and our reserves coach, and our junior coaching positions among our boy’s and girl’s sides. We will publicly announce the successful candidates soon.

We hope all of our staff, volunteers, coaches, support personnel, players, members and supporters and loved ones had a wonderful Christmas and enjoy a safe and prosperous 2024.

See you in 2024. Go Cats!
