August update 2024

Published Fri 25 Oct 2024

Saturday 31 August sees us move closer to the end of 2024 season.

First, our U18 boys clash with Geelong Amateur in the Division 2 Preliminary Final at Leopold at 9.45am. Gibby’s side finished the regular season on top of the ladder with a solitary loss to Grovedale, who then backed up to beat us by around 2 goals in the second semi-final last weekend.Despite losing, the game was in the balance right to the end and we are sure the boys will give every effort to make the grand final next week. We’d love to see as many players, officials, members and supporters as possible head out to the game.

Then, our final senior men’s home-and-away round for the year is at Bisinella Oval when we host St. Albans. Apart from being the last men’s match for the season, it is also Shayne Stone’s and Devon Smith’s last match in charge of the squad, so we encourage every member and supporter to come along to cheer on the team and to thank Rock and Dev for their work over the years while wishing them well for the future. And by the way, last Saturday against St. Josephs was Rock’s 100 match as senior coach/co-coach. Well done Rock on your major milestone!

We are also well into our search for a new senior head coach for 2025 and beyond and hope to have an announcement soon. Stay tuned.

We have some personal success over the last couple of weeks with Charlee Morrow winning the League U16 Div 1 Best & Fairest. Lokki Gillett won the Senior Womens Div 1 Rookie of the Year and Kara Stacey and Taiya Morrow made the Senior Women Div 1 Team of the Year.

Blake Keating and Nathan Howe from our U16 Boys team played in the Herald Sun Cup and both were named in the best.

The VLine Squads have been picked for 2024 and we are pleased to announce that Jarvis Burley has made the Div 1 team with our very own senior coach Shayne Stone as an assistant coach to the team. We have 6 girls that have made the squad- Charlie Harvey, Shayla McNeill, Chloe Price, Emelia Ritchie, Ruby Saint and Jemma Trainor

Congratulations to all of you on your achievements and good luck to those in volved in the VLine Cup that is being help at the end of September in Ballarat

Sunday 25th August saw us host the junior and senior female grand finals at the LSC. Spread over Ovals 1 and 3, the day held seven different matches. Despite forecasts of inclement weather, it was kind to us and resulted in a fantastic event, with very complimentary feedback from AFL Barwon. Thanks to Lou Spoors and the organising team for their work to plan the day and to all the volunteers who helped it become the success it was.

As we’ve mentioned several times now, LFNC has been assigned the Bar rights for the 2024 GFNL senior finals. This means that we will need plenty of volunteers who hold an RSA to help man the bars and serve our customers. If you can help – even for 1 day – please sign up at https://volunteersignup.org/PCMP8 or contact Carol at the club via email admin@larasc.com.au and register your interest. We will need all the help we can get for this lucrative opportunity that only comes round once every 12 years! Please help if you can.
