August Update 2023

Published Thu 31 Aug 2023

In terrific news for the club’s junior section, we can report that we had 3 sides play finals with our U/14 girls winning the Division 1 premiership. In a hard-fought grandfinal contest at St. Joseph’s last Sunday, the girls held off Torquay to score a fantastic win. Well done to Tim and all the players!

Unfortunately, our U/16 girls weren’t so fortunate and went down to St. Marys in their Division 1 grand final by a single point. It was heartbreaking for the girls and their coach (Troy), but we offer them a sincere ‘well done’ on their year. Our pipeline of junior girls is certainly very healthy and we can look forward with confidence to the ongoing development of female footy at LFNC.

OurU/16 boys made finals in Division 2 but were beaten in an elimination final. Again, condolences to Matt and the boys, but well done on their season.

This weekend (2nd and 3rd of September) sees the club host the junior boys grand finals for U/16 and U/14 age groups at Bisinella Oval. We’ll see 10 games across a huge couple of days. We can do with all the help available to run those days and ask all parents who can volunteer to let your junior co-ordinators know and we’ll be in touch.

We’re now into vote count and presentation season for our various sides from seniors down to juniors. Our senior section Best and Fairest winners to date are:

  • Senior Men: Aaron Stone

  • Senior Women: Maddie Newitt

  • Reserves Men: Billy Whiting

  • U/18 Boys: Banjo Hickey

We will provide a list of Junior section winners at the completion of their presentation nights.

A quick note on the status of the senior men’s side for next year: having re-signed the coaches some weeks back, we have been busy re-signing the players for next year. We can report that we have been very encouraged by our progress, and expect to retain the entire senior group, in addition to recruits who have already agreed to call Bisinella Oval home for 2024.

Our senior Football/Netball Presentation night is being held on Thursday 28th September.

Thanks to all committee members, volunteers, coaches, players, club members and supporters for your work and support at all games across the year. Our annual general meeting will occur in early October – please keep an eye out for the announcement. As always, we would welcome new committee volunteers for either the senior or junior committees. Please contact the club if you’d like to get involved.
