What is a Sempai?  A Sempai is a well meaning parent, or other person above 14yrs of age, who wishes to be involved with Judo or Jujitsu, and be an assistant to the coaches. There main roles are behaviour management, and safety management of the students. They will be under the direction of the coaches at each dojo who will help them know what they need to do to be of assistance.

At the course, you will be taught, history, our lineage,  our affiliation with the national sports organisation, equipment, classification of throws, basic breakfalls and techniques, that we are incorporated sporting organisation, who is on the committees, who are your dojo representatives, is there a progression pathway? etc.  You will have a go at the techniques, but do not need to be thrown.  We will have mainstream partners to be thrown.  A new section we are including is information on ways to handle challenging behaviours, autistic children, conflict resolution between children or even with parents.

We will endeavour to answer your questions, so be prepared to come with questions.

After the course, you can decide if you wish to come on the mat as a Sempai, assistant to the coaches, or just retain the information to maybe assist your child at home.  If you do decide to come on the mat, you will need to purchase a gi (uniform) at a cost of $50, and an embroidered Sempai purple belt ($25).  All participants on the course will receive a certificate and those who go on the mat will also receive a Sempai badge which you will sew on to the bottom of your sleeve of the gi jacket.
