What is Judo?

Judo is a tremendous and dynamic Olympic sport, that demands both physical prowess and mental discipline. From a standing position, it involves techniques that allow you to lift and throw your opponent. on the ground, it includes techniques that allow you to hold your opponents firmly on the ground.

Friendly and inclusive

We have judo clubs all around Tasmania, all of which are safe environments for all to train and learn. Joining a club builds friendship, on and off the mats. Judo is for everyone and every ability.

Is judo safe?Friendship

Judo does not involve kicking, punching or striking techniques. Judo does not involve the  application of pressure against the joints to throw an opponent. Judo does not involve special equipment or weapons. Instead, judo simply involves two individuals who, by gripping the judo uniform or judogi, use the forces of balance, power and movement to attempt to subdue each other.

Player development

Judo players (judoka) progress through a grading system that is both rewarding and challenging. There are many pathways in judo, including fitness, confidence building, competition, kata, coaching, refereeing or just for fun. Each judoka is supported in whatever pathway they choose.

Child Safeguarding

Judo has a zero tolerance policy to harm, abuse and/or neglect of a Child/Young Person in any form. All Children/Young People have the right to feel safe and protected from all forms of abuse, harm, and neglect. Children/Young People have the right to take part in sport in a safe , positive and enjoyable environment.judo

Adaptive judo

Adaptive Judo offers people with diverse and special needs the opportunity to participate, and compet,  in Judo. With the required training and encouragement, people with intellectual disabilities and other special needs can learn the art and culture of judo, taking their place as respected members of our Judo community.
