Dear Members

Celebrating Outstanding Dan Grading Achievements!

November 2024 was a remarkable month for the Judo community, with two clubs witnessing exceptional milestones in the journeys of their judoka.

At the Whyalla Judo Club, on 26 November 2024, the dojo was filled with energy and excitement as Mark Asperti undertook his Dan Grading before a panel comprising Nathan Freeman (chair), Kevin Freeman, and David MacDonald. Supported by Richard Lewis as his uke, Mark displayed exceptional skill and dedication, earning the prestigious rank of Ni Dan (2nd Dan)!

The event drew a full house, with current and former members gathering to celebrate this significant moment. This turnout reflects not only the importance of Mark's achievement but also the enduring spirit and unity of the Whyalla Judo Club.

Earlier in the month, on 9 November 2024, the Adelaide University Judo Club (AUJC) hosted a momentous event as Phuc Nguyen and Yu Hang Lam (Ivan) took to the tatami for their Dan Grading. Under the watchful eyes of a distinguished panel comprising Nathan Freeman (chair), Christine Hustig, and Harry Hustig, both judoka demonstrated remarkable skill and discipline, earning the coveted rank of Sho Dan (1st Dan)!

These achievements are a testament to the hard work, perseverance, and commitment of Mark, Phuc, and Ivan. They exemplify the values of Judo—discipline, respect, and continuous improvement.

Congratulations to Mark, Phuc, and Ivan on these incredible milestones! Your success is a source of pride for your clubs and the wider Judo community. Here’s to many more achievements and a bright future for Judo in Whyalla, Adelaide, and beyond!

Yours in Judo
