Dear Life Members, Member Clubs and Members
There is plenty to go through today so let’s get right into it.
Kodokan Exchange
On 19-21 January 2024 members of Judo Australia (JA) are invited to attend a special visit with three coaches personally recommended by the Kodokan, to be held in Wollongong NSW with local hosts Illawarra Judo Club.
Any assistant coach, and above, can register their attendance @ausjudo.com.au and the cost is $40 per person.
Kodokan Exchange – JudoSA sponsored positions
JA have held 2 positions for each State.
JudoSA is looking to sponsor two (2) coaches to attend. For those coaches that are chosen they will be supported by a $300 grant from JudoSA, with an additional $50 if the coach is from one of our regional locations. In addition to this JA will cover the $40 attendance fee.
For those coaches from our member clubs that are interest in this opportunity please e-mail secretary@judosa.com.au by Saturday 16 December with your EOI.
There are terms and conditions as outlined here: https://www.revolutionise.com.au/judosa/news/kodokan-exchange-judosa-sponsored-positions/
For those coaches that have already registered, feel free to submit an EOI.
Where we have more than two EOI’s from persons meeting our Terms & Conditions, we will open it to a draw.
Policy
The Board is looking to adopt, and where necessary adapt, the following policies as developed by JA:
- Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy;
- Competition Manipulation and Sport Gambling Policy;
- Improper Use of Drugs and Medicine Policy;
- Member Protection Policy; and
- Complaints, Disputes and Discipline Policy
Once this has been done we will make them available to all our members.
JA will be looking to undertake education programs early in the new year with regards to these policies. We will keep you informed on this topic.
Child Safety Audit
To ensure compliance with Child Safety Standards JA will be conducting an audit of all States with regards to processes around Child Safety, which JudoSA welcomes, and will be working closely with Judo Australia to ensure we are all across the current requirements.
Marketing Material
The need for member clubs for assistance in marketing is something we have heard a lot about, and have discussed the topic with Judo Australia.
JA have created a suite of social media assets to share with their State associations, and rather than JudoSA retain control of them, we support JA to make them available to all our member. This will be important for the crucial New Year sports choice period for families.
Member clubs will need to brand it to suit their needs, and we can assist where required.
With branding it is important to create your club identity, but it is also important to identify you belong to Judo SA as the peak judo body in SA, and that we are part of something bigger with Judo Australia. This creates market differentiation, which in turn will benefit all member clubs and attract participants to the brand, helping clubs increase and retain people on the mat.
We will shortly send out the link to our memberr clubs.
Reform and Restructure Discussion + EOI for Board Liaison
Before Monday 18 December 2023 we will enter into a reform and restructure phase, that will take into account the feedback as provided through YourSay.
You will start to see documentation that highlights what people have said, so we can keep that conversation going, along with key aspects of the reform for consideration leading up to the February Member club engagement.
With any change communication is important, so before Monday 18 December an EOI will go out for clubs to put forward their Board Liaison.
EOI Appointed Directors
Before Monday 18 December an EOI will go out for two (2) appointed directors to join the Board, both will be targeted to women, to achieve much needed gender equity on the Board.

Judo Australia calls for Expressions of Interest to join the National Adaptive Judo Committee
Judo Australia has called for members to join the National Adaptive Judo Committee (7 members). No Limits Judo in Australia has been previously run by an incredibly passionate group of members who have lifted the profile of Adaptive Judo in Australia to amazing levels. JA believe that with stronger support from the JA team they can lift again to new heights.
Expression of Interest will close January 31st, 2024
If interested please send a covering letter along with a short CV detailing your experience to Beck Hamilton - CEO Judo Australia - bhamilton@ausjudo.com.au
