2025 National NEXTGEN Camp - Towards 2032
Details
Event information
Australia will host another Olympics Games in 2032 and Judo Australia's Pathways program is tasked with identifying and developing the young athletes who will represent Australia at that home Olympics.
For 2025, our annual Futures Camp becomes the National NextGen Camp to recognise the task ahead. This camp introduces young athletes - girls and boys born in 2010 and 2011 - to competitive judo as experienced in Cadets and beyond, and lays a foundation for potential high performers to think seriously about their future in judo. Please do not register your child if they born outside of these dates. We will be checking and we will not be making exceptions as this would drastically change the outcomes we wish to achieve for this camp. Ypour camp fees will be refunded however, there will be a processing fee charged.
The program will include:
- judo training sessions teaching important strategic and technical skills for competitive judo;
- fun and games to improve physical abilities, on and off the Judo mat;
- education about the off-mat elements that contribute towards becoming a successful judo athlete including goal setting, and performing at your best;
- education about how to successfully transition from a senior girl/boy to a cadet athlete;
- introduction to the Judo Australia High Performance/Pathways program and what younger athletes need to know;
- hearing from successful athletes who have competed on the Worlds and Olympic stages;
- a tour of the Australian Institute of Sport.
There are just 50 places available for the Judo Australia's 2025 National NextGen Camp. This camp is over-subscribed every year - reserve your child's spot now.
Cost: $400, which includes all meals at the AIS dining hall, accommodation, training and recovery facilities, coaching and t-shirt. NB: Travel costs are additional (see below).
Eligibility to attend this camp:
· must be a financial member of Judo Australia,
· born in 2010 or 2011,
· minimum grade of 3rd Kyu (green belt)
How will travel be arranged?
Each athlete is responsible for arranging their own travel to Canberra, including making their own bookings. Athletes must arrive in Canberra by 1 pm on the 9th January and can leave after lunch at 3 pm on the 12th January 2025. Judo Australia will make sure that athletes are safe when travelling to and from the camp, and will arrange for athletes to be picked up from Canberra airport or coach station by an adult staff member or coach.
Who will be coaching at the camp?
The camp will be run by coaches selected from around Australia who are experienced in coaching State level athletes. All coaches have Working with Children checks and are certified to safely look after our athletes.
Does attending the camp mean I will be more likely to be selected to represent Australia in the future?
No, it will be educational and fun. Our aim is for you to learn but attendance has no bearing on selection in the future.
Any questions in relation to this camp should be directed to the General Manager of Performance and Pathways, Maria Pekli, via maria.pekli@ausjudo.com.au.
