***The Australian Insitute of Sport current infecious disease requirements place a cap of participants attending camps at the AIS to 45 athletes. If the 2023 Future Camp exceeds this maximun capacity limit, we will open a waitlist that will operate on a first serve basis in anticipation that the camp limit increases before the camp goes ahead. 

Payment is not required on the waitlist as we cannot guarantee athlete spots beyond the existing 45. If camp numbers are approved to be increased by the AIS, JA will notify you that you have been progressed through the waitlist. You will have 3 days from notification to confirm and pay for Futures Camp 2023 registration in order to secure these additional spaces.***

 

The program will include:

• judo training sessions teaching important skills for competitive judo;
• fun and games to improve physical abilities, on and off the Judo mat;
• education about the elements that contribute towards becoming a successful judo athlete including goal setting, and performing at your best; 
• education about how to successfully transition from a senior girl/boy to a cadet athlete;
• introduction to the JA High Performance program and what younger athletes need to know;
• hearing from successful athletes who competed at the Worlds Stage;
• tour of the Australian Institute of Sport.

There are 45 places available for this camp.  The cost of this camp is $350, which includes all meals at the AIS dining hall, accommodation, training facility, and coaching.  Travel cost is additional (see below).

Eligibility to attend this camp:

· must be a financial member of JA,

· born in 2009 or 2008,

· minimum grade of 3^rd Kyu (green belt)

How will travel be arranged?

Each athlete is responsible for arranging their own travel to Canberra and making their own bookings.  Athletes must arrive to Canberra by 1 pm on the 19th January and can leave after lunch at 3 pm on the 22nd January 2023.  Of course, JA wants to make sure that athletes are safe when travelling to and from the camp, so once athlete invitations are finalised everyone will be given contact details of other athletes and parents who are attending the camp from their local area.  This will allow parents to coordinate flight bookings, bus tickets or car-pooling to allow athletes to travel together.  If one of the coaches for the camp is from your state, they will also help with this coordination process.  JA will arrange for athletes to be picked up from Canberra airport or coach station by an adult staff member or coach.

Who will be coaching at the camp?

The camp will be undertaken by four coaches selected from around Australia who are experienced in coaching State level athletes.  All coaches have Working with Children checks and are certified to safely look after children.  

Does attending the camp mean I will be more likely to be selected to represent Australia in the future?

No, it will be educational and fun.  Our aim is for you to learn but attendance has no bearing on selection in the future.
