Australian Championships 2020-21 Update

Published Tue 25 Aug 2020

Message from 8th August 2020

The NSW Impulse Committee have taken the tough decision to postpone the 37th Australian Impulse Championships until the 2021-2022 season.

We have decided to make the call early to give sailors time to change travel plans.

This decision is due to the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic and extended border restrictions between various states, tougher guidelines from Australian Sailing and the general well being of competitors considering that many fit into the high risk category if they became sick while travelling.

The Australian Impulse Association is in support of NSW hosting the event again at South Lake Macquarie ASC in 2021-22 as we pause the normal rotation between states. As per the Impulse constitution a special general meeting will be held remotely via video conference to replace the annual general meeting normally held at the nationals.

Online virtual sailing will continue, local single day events may be the normal in NSW using the RaceQs app and shared online, visit the AusImpulse.com.au website for more information.

We thank our sponsors, supporters, volunteers and look forward to hosting a bigger event than ever next year.

The NSW Impulse Association will proceed with hosting the 2020-21  Australian Impulse Championships at South Lake Macquarie ASC, Sunshine NSW.

SLMASC and the Impulse Association will be governed by the state and federal requirements for social distancing.

If there are border closures or restrictions on competitors returning to their home state we may postpone the official Australian Championships and decide to host a regional championship at the scheduled time. This is to allow all competitors to be able to compete in the Australian Championships. We will hold off on this decision as late as possible to allow any hotspots to be managed.

The NOR will be published in the August edition of the On-Impulse magazine

The NSW Impulse association has held a meeting around the 2020-21 Australian Impulse Championships at South Lake Macquarie ASC, Sunshine NSW.

We are assessing the information of Australian Sailing along with state and federal governments, at this stage we are at a wait and see approach.

The intention is to make a further announcement with all information at hand on the 1st July 2020.

We understand that the current situation is changing very fast and don’t want to make an early decision which might be an under or over-reaction but at the same time we are trying to give plenty of notice to competitors.
