GLYC hosted a very successful and well attended 2024 Australian Championship. 50 boats registered, with about 48 active participants. The Sunday before the regatta saw some cob webs blown out in the practice race, with the race committee abandoning racing on day 1 due to gusts in to the mid 30's. Day 2 saw beautiful racing conditions and 3 races completed, with Mark Bulka getting three bullets. Day 3 backed up, but with lighter and more unpredictable winds throwing curve balls at a lot of the "favoured" contenders in the first race of the day. Those drops for who ended up being the top 3 at the end of the regatta proved invaluable.
The second race of day 3 and racing on day 4 showed fairly consistent results to what was "expected", leaving the last day to sort out 2nd to 4th place with barely a point or two separating Lindsay Irwin, Andrew Webster and Richard Batten. Mark Bulka was a likely winner, barring disasters - of which there were none.
Lindsay Irwin just held on for second over Andre Webster and it was fantastic to see some relatively "young" sailors in the top 10.
Mark Young and Bentley Conn did an awesome job with photography and sailor interviews, helping everyone who couldn't be there or who was spectating from a distance experience the event.
Results are here and see FB for photos.
A huge thank you to Mark Bulka and the Victorian contender sailors for organising such a great Nationals.
