2023 Contender 50th World Championships

The Western Australian Contender Association and Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club hosted the 2023 Australian and World Championship event in January 2023. 

Sailors from Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Australia congregated in Perth for the 50th World Championship of the class, with the Australian Championship a seriously windy affair, leading in to five days of Worlds racing that ranged from heavy to light. Mark Bulka put on a masterclass across all wind ranges and conditions to win quite convincingly. Simon Barwood, the local lad, grabbed a deserved second, with Lindsay Irwin filling an all Australian podium.
