Hockeyroos visit Hornsby RSL Hockey

Published Tue 01 May 2018

On the 1st May, Hornsby RSL Hockey club were fortunate enough to receive a visit from Anna Flanagan and Georgie Parker, 2 Hockeyroos players who have both represented Australia more than 100 times. Anna and Georgie ran coaching drills for the members of the Hornsby RSL Hockey Club for almost 2 hours, and with more than 45 players and their hockey playing children attending, it was a night not to be missed. Players were taught a variety of new skills, including a squeeze, an overhead, and a recap on how to hit a ball properly so it actually went were it was supposed to go and some strategic plays.

Anna and Georgie were more than patient dealing with such a large group of (amateur) however hockey mad players, and were very generous with their time in helping individuals improve on a particular skill when requested. At the end of the night, everyone couldn’t help but get a “selfie” or two with the players, and the club was very grateful that Anna and Georgie were more than happy to stay until each and every player had had their moment in front of the camera with them.

Hornsby RSL Hockey Club would like to say a huge thank you to Anna Flanagan and Georgie Parker for attending the training session for giving their time and knowledge to help each of the players at the club improve their hockey sills. Their enthusiasm for hockey is contagious, and their visit re-ignited the passion in many of the players of the Hornsby RSL Hockey Club. We would welcome Anna and Georgie back anytime!

The hype and excitement of the training session extended into the weekend and certainly paid off with our Division A team beating Mirrabooka M's 2-0, and our Division B team beat Manly 2-1
