Tackers is an introductory, fun, games-based sailing program designed for kids aged 7 to 12, delivered at recognised Tackers Clubs. Kids don’t need to have any sailing experience and they don’t have to be a member of a club to participate. All the equipment, including the boats, are provided. The Tackers Program is delivered in small groups by an Australia Sailing qualified Instructor and Assistant Instructors. Kids sail in pairs in small boats. It’s a great way to meet new friends and kids have the chance to sail with others in their group.

We are taking registrations for Tackers 1, 2 and 3, please choose the correct Tackers when registering each child, based on their previous aquired Tackers Certificate. Our instructors will work through the competencies with your children and at the end of this week your child will graduate from the Tackers level that they are meeting the competncies for. For EXAMPLE: If your child enrols in Tackers 1 but is showing the skill of a Tackers 3 they may graduate from Tackers 3 instead of Tackers 1. 

Every class requires a minimum number of 6 Attendees to proceed, if we do not meet minimum numbers the course may be rescheduled.

Course Overview

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to have fun and learn the basics of sailing through games on and off the water.

Course Outcome

By the end of the Tackers 1 course, the participants will be able to:

• Steer with tiller extension under towing paddling power
• Tie a figure 8 knot, round twice and two half hitches
• Tack (push turn)
• Gybe (pull turn)
• Reach around a figure of 8 course using both tacking and gybing
• Sail with tiller extension
• Sail upwind and downwind by following the safety boat

You will gain your Tackers 1 completion certificate.
