Course information
Hi there, sailor!
Now that you have experienced a tester of Tackers sailing, your might like to attend a Tackers sailing course at Hillarys Yacht Club during the school holidays or come down to the Club for our free Discover Sailing Day on Sunday, 19th October where you can try sailing keelboats and dinghies, kayaking and stand up paddle boards and take a look around Hillarys Yacht Club.
The Tackers Pathway - 7 to 12 year olds
Tackers 1 – Having Fun
Learn the basics of sailing in a fun, safe and affordable way. Kids pair up and sail in the Tackers boats. It’s a great way to build confidence, make new friends and learn to sail with others in their group.
Tackers 2 - Tricks and Techniques (Completion of Tackers 1 is required)
This course aims to consolidate the experience and knowledge gained in Tackers 1 and build on the fun participants had in Tackers 1 to progress their sailing skills.
Tackers 3 - Sailing Fast (Completion of Tackers 2 is required)
This course aims to build on the skills learnt in Tackers 2 and focuses on advanced sailing skills through games and adventures on the water.
Green Fleet
Upon completion of Tackers 3, sailors are invited to join Hillarys Yacht Club's Green Fleet to continue the development of their boat handling skills to independently manoeuvre their boat in moderate conditions on all points of sail and give racing a try. Green Fleet trains on Saturday mornings with the HYC Dinghy Club.
More information is available on the Hillarys Yacht Club website or you can phone or email Kim our Training and Development Coordinator on 9246 2833 (extension #5), training@hillarysyachtclub.com.au
