Open Women's State championships recap

Published Mon 08 Aug 2022

On the weekend, our HDSA team participated in Softball NSW's Open Women State Championships. The team had an excellent weekend finishing the tournment in 6th place.

Saturday saw the girls play 4 tough games, coming out with 2 wins and 2 losses. HDSA started the day strong beating Georges River 2-0 followed by another victory over Penrith, beating them 5-4. The day then took a turn with a loss to Cumberland Nepean 10-0, however, the girls came back and fought hard against Macarthur in the last game of the day. Unfortunalty, HDSA lost that game 1-0 in a high intense and quality game.

Sunday morning was the start finals and Hornsby faced off with Manly Warringah for the opportunity to continue in the finals. HDSA led strong throughout the game, however, the game got away from them in the last inning when Manly came back to win 3-2. After that loss, Hornsby were out of the running for a podium placing.

The girls played won against Newcastle 8-0 to progress to the 5th vs 6th game against North Shore. The last game of the weekend went North Shore's way, beating HDSA 10-5. This secured Hornsbys place at 6th, a proud result for the girls.

At the conclusion of the tournament, two of our players were recognised for their acheivements in the tournament.
