Our Values

Our Values

Below are the core values underpinning our organisation at the Greystanes Giants Softball Club:

  • Welcoming – We are inclusive - we welcome all members of the community at all levels of ability to participate in softball (whether you are a player or volunteer), and we encourage members to become active, participating members of our club
  • Having fun – Friendship and fun are paramount for our players, supporters and parents
  • Attitude – We are passionate about t-ball and softball - importantly, we share a common enthusiasm for the game and it binds us as a club and community
  • Learning – We aim to achieve all aspects of player development including skills, teamwork, character, mental agility and sportsmanship
  • Excellence – In all that we do at all levels of the club, we strive to do our best at all times
  • Sportsmanship – Developing character, integrity, respect for the game, respect for our team, respect for the umpires, respect for our coaches and respect for the opposition is more important than individual glory
  • Innovation - All ideas are welcome, fresh ideas progress our great club!

Our Purpose

To create a fun, welcoming and and supportive softball experience for members that focuses on the development of players, umpires and coaches.

Our Mission Statement

“We will provide the opportunity for any child, adult, or young person, irrespective of ability or background, to learn the game, play the game and love the game. Our mission is to inspire and encourage all players through physical and mental development, to respect the rules of the game and to engender principles of having fun, teamwork and sportsmanship at all levels of the club”.

Gender and Racial Equity

GGSC is committed to creating an environment in which inclusion, equity and diversity are recognised as being essential to player and coaching well-being which we believe in turn drives performance of our teams on and off the field. We are committed to incorporating these principles into the GGSC t-ball and softball programs and across the entire club.  GGSC recognises our players and coaches’ diverse backgrounds, knowledge, skills and experience as one of the important elements in building GGSC culture to realise our vision. We have identified three core focus areas for our diversity and inclusion practices and actively encourage education and participation across these areas throughout GGSC programs. They are:

  1. Gender Diversity
  2. LGBTQI+ Inclusion
  3. Indigenous, Multicultural and POC Engagement

Governance Statement

GGSC is an incorporated association registered in New South Wales. It is managed and operated by a committee of dedicated volunteer members elected by GGSC members at our AGM held in conjunction with our end of season presentation evening in or around May each year.

GGSC corporate governance is the framework of systems, policies and processes by which we operate our business of softball and through which our Executive Committee, coaches and management are empowered and accountable for making decisions that affect GGSC softball both on and off the diamond. Our Executive Committee is authorised to run the Club by the members in accordance with the rules of the Club. The Committee is empowered to make by-laws and introduce or adopt policies and codes of practice. The Committee may also adopt policies and codes of practice established by CNSA, SNSW and Softball Australia as required.

Our approach to corporate governance aligns with our vision and values designed to promote transparency, fair dealings both on and off the field and the protection of stakeholder interests, including our Executive, our partners, our players, coaches and our community. It includes aspiring to the highest standards of corporate governance; which GGSC sees as fundamental to the sustainability of GGSC business and our performance on the field.

Volunteering

We are a grassroots, not-for-profit community sports organisation run by volunteers with a belief that softball is for everyone. We support boys and girls, men and women of all ages and backgrounds participating in and contributing to our Club, in the capacity of: a player, team official, helper or supporter. Our club needs volunteers - all parents, grandparents, family members, friends and partners are welcome and encouraged to get involved. It is no surprise that club events are more fun with greater participation - so go on, get involved and have fun!

The fact is that a club can only be as great as the community that supports it. So why should you volunteer for the Greystanes Giants?

  1. Everyone has a different set of skills that need sharing – Sports clubs around the country don’t always need people who have skills related to sport specifically, they often need people who are extremely organised and can complete tasks like public speaking, filling out forms and anything related to figures and numbers
  2. The feeling of fulfilment and altruism: Dedicating your time to your local sporting club or organisation grants a feeling of fulfilment and guaranteed to make you smile knowing you’re doing something valuable and worthwhile giving back to the community and kids
  3. It’s a learning experience: This is a fantastic benefit of volunteering; you can be exposed to discovering new talents that you may have never known you were capable of and can also develop your pre-existing skills
  4. Future job opportunities: Participating in volunteer work can potentially lead on to job offers that open up and can even open up a career path that you may have never considered or known that existed. The experiences that are gained during your time volunteering at the club is a great addition to your resume and can help showcase your skillset in interviews in the future
  5. It can positively impact all your dimensions of health: Volunteering can really provide a sense of purpose for an individual and make them feel worthy. It opens up social contacts, gets you active and can significantly boost your emotional wellbeing
  6. Good way to get into work: As the pandemic has affected a lot of industries, volunteering is a great way to enter or re-enter the work environment to help out clubs who have no doubt struggled and would be so grateful to have people lend a hand to continue get the clubs back on their feet so that they are not just surviving, but thriving
  7. Providing a positive experience and impact for current and future generations of kids: A volunteer is as important to a club as anyone else; they fill so many critical roles within the organisation such as coaching, being an official and helping out on the Board/Executive. Often, without them the sport would not be able to run as effectively and efficiently as they do, which would lead to negative experiences for the kids. When you volunteer with a sports organisation focusing on youth development, the impact you have on a young person's life can extend well into adulthood
  8. Helps you take on a challenge: Volunteering can become challenging at times, but it can help you achieve personal goals. A challenge is not always a bad thing and it is good to face them every so often to keep you on your feet!
  9. If you love sport, why not get involved in more ways than one?: If sport is something that makes you happy, whether you love playing or watching it, why not donate your time to helping out the local clubs to further improve the product that you love so much!
  10. It’s fun!: Volunteering can be such a positive and rewarding experience for those involved and provides a resource for individuals to take part in, and explore their passions and interests

According to the NSW Office of Sport, "Volunteering in sports plays a vital role in building stronger and more inclusive communities".

There are so many great ways to get involved - we need coaches, team managers, umpires, scorers, canteen and bbq staff, photographers, equipment officers, event coordinators and fundraisers. We will provide the necessary support and training so that you can succeed in your chosen volunteer path. Volunteering offers rewarding real-world work experience that may or may not overlap with your existing skillset or vocation. It is an opportunity to apply your expertise or learn new skills.
