Tackers 2
WELCOME TACKERS 2 SAILORS AND PARENTS
The Tackers 2 course is designed to build on the experience gained in ‘Tackers 1’, with kids now moving on to sailing the boat by themselves.
At Gosford Sailing Club, kids start off sailing with another person, then transition to sail by themselves, gaining new skills along the way as they get more confident with time on the water. The Club provides boats for kids in the Tackers 2 Program, with Optimists being the Class of choice for smaller kids and RS Fevas for slightly larger kids.
Tackers 2 runs on Saturday Mornings from 9am-11.15am.
Registration is now open for October 2024 Courses. Please remember- Kids must have completed the Tackers 1 Program before transitioning to Tackers 2.

When I’m on the water I can . . .
- Sail by myself in most conditions
- Identify dangerous situations in and around the marina
- Sit on the side of my boat and face my sail
- Sail without kneeling
- Steer and control my sail at the same time
- Tack my boat facing forward and changing my hands behind my back
- Reach around a sausage course
- Know where to have my sail set for all points of sailing
- Steer using my tiller extension when I’m paddling or being towed
- Get out of the ‘No Go Zone’
And when I’m on shore I can . . .
- Name the main ‘points’ of sailing
- Name the all of the parts of my boat
- Tie a ‘bowline’ and a ‘reef’ knot
- Use aids to determine the wind direction and strength
- Rig and de-rig my boat with assistance
