Tom Slingsby Inspires Gosford Sailors

Published Thu 18 Nov 2021

Last Tuesday Gosford junior sailors warmly welcomed sailing legend and local hero Tom Slingsby. Tom was back at the club as part of the four-week SailGP regional Championship Trophy Tour. As part of this special event, junior sailors were invited to take part in an on-the-water training session with Tom, see the 2.5 kilo sterling silver and 24-carat gold plated SailGP Championship trophy and ask Tom all the sailing questions they could think of!

Since starting sailing at Gosford many years ago in a sabot with his sister Alana, Tom has gone on to win multiple World Titles, become an Olympic Gold Medallist and sailed the fastest boats in history, including the F50 Catamaran as part of the SailGP event. On top of his impressive sailing achievements, Tom is a huge inspiration to many sailors, including the next generation of local Gosford junior sailors.

Tom was happy to be back, recently saying "Really enjoyed heading back to Gosford Sailing Club and meeting the next generation of sailors. This grass is where I rigged my boat 30 years ago and fell in love with sailing".

Gosford Sailing Club would sincerely like to thank Tom for his time as well as SailGP for organising the event. There is no doubt all of the Gosford Sailing Club will be cheering Tom on and following his journey as he competes in the upcoming SailGP event to be held on Sydney Harbour from 17th-18th December 2021.
