Published Thu 06 Feb 2020

I've listed below are some of the outstanding results from sailor representing Gosford Sailing Club at regattas over Christmas/New Year period. Well done to all.

I'm sure I will miss someone but here goes -

420's:

Bridget Conrad -

420 Nationals in Mornington - 10th overall & 2nd girl

420 Youth Championships in Sorrento - 8th overall and first girl. Bridget & her crew India have made the Australian Sailing Youth Team to represent Australia at the next Youth Worlds in Brazil.

Sabots:

Miles Greenwood and Jacob West represented GSC at the 56th Sabot Nationals on Sydney Harbor. Miles & Jacob started well coming 1st and 2nd respectively in the invitation race. In the Nationals Miles finished 2nd & Jacob was 4th overall.

29ers:

Jess River, Will Rivers, Mark Murray, Ryan Watt, Tom Molin & Logan Radford represented GSC at the 29er National in Blairgowrie. For all crews it was their first 29er Nationals and all did the club proud. They were all lucky to be supported during the regatta by GSC's Kurt Hansen who was a great coach and provided a huge amount of support for the kids. Overall all crews made it into the Silver fleet with Jess & Mark finishing 21st, Logan & Ryan 24th & Will & Tom 28th.

Flying 11s:

Kye Rivers and Jacob West represented GSC at the Flying 11 Australian Championships held by the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron. Competing at their first Flying 11 Australian Titles they finished an impressive 32nd out of 63 boats.

Optimists:

Will Ridings competed in the Optimist Australian titles in Melbourne. Will has come through the Gosford Learn the Sail program & this was Will's first regatta. Will competed in the intermediate fleet and encountered conditions he'd never experience on Brisbane Water

505:

Brian & Riley Pike represented GSC at the 505 World Titles as part of Sail Melbourne. At the time of writing they were sitting in 21st place sailing one of the oldest boats in the fleet having been rescued from the bush at the side of the freeway and restored.

Etchells:

Don Wilson, Brian Hawthorne, John Humphries & Tom Slingsby represented GSC at the Etchell Australian Championships held at Royal Brighton Yacht Club. Tom Slingsby joined the Magpie crew of Graeme Taylor & James Mayo to become the Etchell Australian Champions. Don Wilson & crew came 32nd.

NS14:

David & Chris Taylor represented GSC at the NS14 Nationals held in a very smoky and windy Canberra finishing 10th.

16ft Skiffs:

Steve Akhurst and crew represented GSC at the 16ft Skiff state titles held at Salamander Bay finishing 49th

Fireballs:

GSC had 4 vessels represent the club at the 54th Fireball Nationals, Mark Jarred & Marguerite O'Rourke finished 6th, Andrew Pearce & Rob Hookway 8th, Adam French & Glenn Stewart 13th & Dick McCulloch & Glenn Stewart 16th.

Flying Ant:

Logan Radford & Joel Beashel competed at the 53rd Flying Ant National Championships. Being the current National champions their goal was to go back to back this year, a goal they were able to achieve.

MG14 Australian Championships:

Three Gosford boats entered. Shannon Corbett in Nemesis finished 5th overall, Mark Murray & Ryan Watt finished 9th on scratch and 1st on handicap & Ross Hansen 17th.

See you next Tuesday.
